Do You Know How to Make each Minute Count?

Posted: October 12, 2010, 1:01 pm

When you live to be my age I think you realize how important and precious the gift of life really is. In the “The Business of Life”, the name of my radio show on KKZZ live everyday from 4pm to 6pm on AM 1400, I interview some of the most successful people in America. I noticed that there is one quality that most of them practice in their lives, and that is they do not waste time. They get after it; they focus on the moment and they make each minute count.

There are 525,600 minutes in a year. Make each one count for getting winning results for your life. We all have been told that we share one thing in common. We all have 525,600 minutes in a year to make our lives full of joy and success.

I will list some of the points that these successful people have shared with me over the years. It might help you make each minute more worthwhile and each day more productive. The idea is to do the very best you can to give valuable service to others, and to try and live a life without regret and full of joy.

“Never let anybody out-work you.” That is the one thing you really can control. Your work ethic is key to growing a productive and joyful life.

“You’re the average of the 5 people you hang around with.” Be very selective with your peer group. Hang with very positive people.

“Create a Mastermind Group” We all need help. Find at least 12 mentors. Ask for help, ask for ideas, ask for support. People are givers. Ask and you will not be disappointed.

“Wait three days and do nothing” The best advice I have ever received. Patience is part of the mix. Sometimes you just have to hang in there.

“Never chase the money” The key here is to provide a service or sell a product with all the passion you can muster. face-to-face relationships with clients, helping them to understand and make sense of the investment options available today. Edward Jones, which ranked No.2 on FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” in 2010, is headquartered in St. Louis. The Edward Jones website is located at www.edwardjones.com and its recruiting website is www.careers.edwardjones.com. The money will find you.

“Your likeability score must be high” People do business with people they like. This has never changed from the beginning of time. Work on your ability to communicate in such a way that people want to help you succeed in life.

“Take care of number 1” Your mental, physical, spiritual and emotional well being is critical for a life filled with joy. Most of these very successful people I have met and interviewed over the years were in great health.

“Check your standards” Lift yourself today with higher standards for all things in your life. Raise the bar just a little. A little more hustle each day and each minute in all areas of your life is a good place to start today.

“Volunteer” Find somebody that needs help. An organization, a person, a cause. See what happens when you reach out to help others lighten their load.

“Winners never quit” Never give up. That extra effort is so important in these challenging times. Water boils at 212 degrees. Not 211. Turn it up a notch today. Try your best if when you do not feel like it.

You could make your own list of things that could motivate you to do more, be more, give more and succeed more in your life. Each minute should count. Try it and let me know what happens. I bet it will be special.

When you understand that we are all blessed to have these 525,600 minutes in a year, then let’s make a plan notto waste a minute. Not a minute. Make each minute count.
